A traumatic season on and off the pitch, Margate battled relegation to the Kent League while mounting debts threatened the club's future. Appointing Gary Aldous as player-manager saw a revival in results in the closing months of the campaign that enabled us to avoid the drop zone. The season ended with a new board in charge and the prospect of reverting to the name Margate for 1989-90.
