Tricky, diminutive Scottish winger signed from Airdrie in July 1970, initially on a two month trial. However Andy impressed Margate's new player-manager Gerry Baker so much in the pre-season friendlies that he was signed permanently in August 1970. Baker said at the time "I have no doubt at all about his ability."

Andy made his debut in a 3-0 win at Telford on 15.8.70 - the opening match of the 1970/71 campaign. On 14.9.70 he scored with a low left-footed 18-yard shot as Margate lost 2-1 at home to Chelmsford but spent much of the early part of the season in the reserves. He'd made just six appearances, scoring once, when he left the club before Christmas 1970.
