5' 10" tall Glasgow-born striker who played his first football as a pupil at North Kelvinside Secondary School in the city.

During World War II Bob served in the 51st Highland Division of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps and played for his unit in the Western Desert as well as turning out for a divisional team in a game against Poland that took place in Germany.

After the war ended Bob joined Hertfordshire non-league outfit Rickmansworth and came to the attention of 3rd Division (South) club Watford who signed him in February 1948.

He was a part-time player for the Hornets and Bob only made one first team appearance - in a 3-1 defeat at Port Vale on 8.1.49 - before being released by Watford at the end of the 1949/50 campaign having spent over two years with the club.

He joined Margate in August 1950 and at the time manager Almer Hall described him as being "a 100% team man who can't be a stooge." Bob made his debut in a 3-0 defeat at Snowdown on 23.8.50 - the opening day of the 1950/51 season and the first match of Hall's long reign as manager. Bob also played in Margate's next game - a 2-1 defeat against Ashford at Hartsdown Park on 2.9.50 - before leaving the club.

He later had a spell with Hertfordshire outfit Leavesden Hospital that started in September 1952 and in 1956 Bob was elected as captain of Rickmansworth Golf Club.
