Versatile left-sided player born in Birmingham who moved to Thanet as a youngster and joined Ramsgate for the 2006/07 season as a 17 year-old. Curtis played for the Rams Under-18's and reserve sides and also made one substitute appearance in the Isthmian League Premier Division in October 2006. A month later he had a trial for the England Under-18 team.

Later in the 2006/07 campaign Curtis moved on to Dover and played for their reserves until the end of 2007/08 season without ever featuring in the senior side. He also played in the Thanet Sunday Football League at that time.

In June 2008 Curtis joined Margate and featured in several pre-season friendlies before making his full debut at centre-back in a 0-0 draw with Tonbridge in the Isthmian League Premier Division at Hartsdown Park on 23.9.08. Manager Barry Ashby told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "Curtis Robinson came in and did well." He kept his place for a 3-2 home defeat against Hastings on 4.10.08 but Curtis then only made two sub appearances in the next eight games.

He returned to the starting line-up for a trip to Hendon on 22.11.08 and played at left-back in a 2-1 win. Curtis kept the number three shirt for the next five matches but after going off injured during the early stages of a 3-0 win over visitors Harlow on 20.12.08 he missed four games due to injury. He returned as a substitute in a 2-0 home win over Ashford (Middlesex) on 24.1.09 and Curtis then played at left-back in a match at Tonbridge on 31.1.09 but was shown a straight red card for a foul in the second half as Margate lost 1-0. The Thanet Times said he "had a very good game" on the left of midfield as Margate beat Tooting & Mitcham 2-0 at Hartsdown Park on 7.2.09 but after that Curtis missed three matches due to suspension.

He returned to the side at left-back in a 4-0 win at Canvey Island on 3.3.09 and from then on Curtis was ever-present in the number three shirt until the end of the season. On 28.3.09 he scored his first goal with a header from a Joe Healy free-kick in a 3-1 home win over Billericay and in April 2009 Curtis was given a contract for the 2009/10 campaign. Manager Terry Yorath told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "I had doubts over Curtis until about two months ago but he's responded really well and deserves a contract." He finished the campaign having scored once from 23 outings (three as sub) as Margate ended up in the relegation zone of the Isthmian League Premier Division and won the club's 'Young Player of the Year' award.

On the eve of the 2009/10 season Terry Yorath told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "Curtis could be anything but he has to realise one good game doesn't make you the best player in the world. Play one good game and two bad and I'll get rid of you."

Curtis made his first appearance of the new campaign on 28.7.09 when he wore the number three shirt as Margate beat visitors Ramsgate 1-0 in the first leg of a tie played for the Isle of Thanet Gazette Cup and he was unlucky not to score the winning goal. He finished a mazy solo run down the left flank with a shot that was all but in the net before Lloyd Blackman knocked the ball over the line. The Gazette said Curtis was a "stand-out player" whilst adding "built like a centre-half forwards wouldn't wanna mess with, he's making this wing-back business look easy. He's come on a bundle with the ball at his feet."

After featuring at left wing-back in Margate's first three games Curtis played in midfield during a 4-0 home defeat against Dartford in the Isthmian League Premier Division on 18.8.09 but he soon resumed his defensive duties. On 12.9.09 he scored his first goal of the season in a 2-2 draw with Sutton in an FA Cup tie at Hartsdown Park and in its report on a 2-1 win over Hendon at Wembley FC on 22.9.09 the Isle of Thanet Gazette said Curtis slung "crosses in all night" from his left wing-back position. He then missed two matches due to attending a family funeral.

Curtis returned to the side in a 2-0 defeat at Canvey Island on 10.10.09 and then wore the number three shirt in Margate's next eight games. He got his second goal in a 3-2 defeat against Cray at Bromley on 29.11.09, bundling the ball home after a Wayne Wilson corner, and the Thanet Times praised Curtis for a "magnificent tackle" in the first half that prevented a clear goalscoring chance.

After a 3-2 defeat at Sittingbourne in the Isthmian League Cup on 16.12.09 Curtis missed three matches due to injury but he resumed his wing-back duties in a 3-3 draw with Horsham at Horsham YMCA on 23.1.10. In his next outing on 26.1.10 Curtis scored an excellent solo goal to earn Margate a 1-0 home win over Chatham in the Kent Senior Cup. He finished a surging run down the left with a finish into the bottom corner and Curtis then started each of the next seven games.

On 2.3.10 he was sent off in first half injury-time as Margate took on Tonbridge at Hartsdown Park and the Isle of Thanet Gazette said that Curtis' straight red card after a challenge with Scott Kinch "seemed harsh - just a case of two blokes going for the ball". The visitors went on to win 3-0. Curtis then missed the next six matches, five of them due to his ban for being sent off coinciding with another suspension for accumulated yellow cards.

He was back in the number three shirt for a 1-1 draw at Boreham Wood on 27.3.10 but over the course of the month that followed Curtis struggled to gain a regular place and in the last eight games of the season he only made two starts and two sub appearances. He finished the campaign having scored three times in 34 outings (two as sub) as Margate avoided relegation again despite finishing in the Premier Division drop zone.

In July 2010 Curtis' younger brother Courtney joined the club from Ramsgate and he later played twice for Margate's first team during the 2010/11 season.

On 10.8.10 Curtis scored in a 4-0 friendly win over a visiting Gillingham X1 and a few days before the start of the new campaign manager Iain O'Connell spoke about him to the Isle of Thanet Gazette, saying "He's been one of our best players in pre-season. If I can keep him off the fast women and nights out he should be ok !"

Curtis started the first Isthmian League Premier Division game of the season - a 2-2 draw with Canvey Island at Hartsdown Park on 21.8.10 - at left wing-back but on 28.8.10 he was sent off in a 2-1 defeat at Lowestoft. He picked up two yellow cards in the second half and the Thanet Times laid the blame at the door of what it described as home players' "play-acting" and said that both Curtis' bookings were for "fairly innocuous challenges".

In its report on a 1-1 home draw with Maidstone on 30.8.10 the Isle of Thanet Gazette praised him for a "brilliant goal-saving tackle" in the second half and on 4.9.10 Curtis had his first outing at centre-back as Margate lost 1-0 at Kingstonian. The Thanet Times said he "looked at home" and Curtis told the club website "I don't fancy myself as a centre-half but if I've got to do a job, I'll do a job." After serving a one match ban Curtis continued in the heart of the defence and on 21.9.10 he headed home a Wayne Wilson corner for his first goal of the season as Margate won 2-1 at Folkestone.

The Isle of Thanet Gazette said Curtis turned in a "top performance at centre-half" in a 1-0 home defeat against Tonbridge on 5.10.10 and shortly afterwards Iain O'Connell told the paper "If he keeps his head screwed on I really think he can go places. He can play in the league but it's all down to him and I've told him that. He still thinks of himself as a left-back but he's a much better centre-half. I had a chat with him at the start of the season and told him what I expected and his attitude's been excellent this year. I think clubs will look at him and I'd love it if someone came in for him. It'd be good for the club too." The Gazette said of Curtis "he's tall, strong, quick, heads the ball and never shirks a challenge".

On 30.10.10 he got his second goal with what the Thanet Times called a "smashing looping header" from a James Rogers free-kick as Margate lost 2-1 to AFC Hornchurch at Hartsdown Park and the paper said Curtis "looked Blues' best player". Towards the end of November 2010 he started a four game stint back in the number three shirt before switching to centre-back once more in a 1-0 defeat at Wealdstone on 10.1.11.

Curtis resumed his left-back duties in a 3-1 win at Carshalton on 8.2.11 and he spent the remainder of the season in that role. He finished the campaign having scored twice from 46 appearances and won both the 'Players' Player of the Year' and 'Supporters' Player of the Year' awards.

At the end of April 2011 Curtis signed a new two-year contract and by then he'd been watched by scouts from Tottenham, Blackpool and Hartlepool. He told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "I've heard all the rumours about clubs watching me and I would like to move on eventually but until anything happens I'm not taking it seriously. I remember playing reserve team football against Chris Smalling and now he's absolutely cruising at Man United, so it does happen, but for now I just want to get on with what I'm doing at Margate. From what people have been saying I think I could make it at a higher level. It sounds quite likely but we'll have to see."

In May 2011 manager Chris Kinnear told the Gazette "Curtis is a young lad and has plenty to learn but he's got a lot of ability. We need to work on his positional awareness and when to do things."

On the eve of the 2011/12 campaign Chris Kinnear spoke about Curtis to the Isle of Thanet Gazette and said "He was a midfielder / attacking player in the early part of his career but he's ended up as a defender. He's got to learn how to defend a bit but he's only young and he's got time on his side. I'd imagine he'll end up as an attacking left-back - I don't think he's a centre-half."

After missing the first two games of the new season Curtis came on as a sub in a 4-1 home defeat against Lowestoft in the Isthmian League Premier Division on 27.8.11 and after featuring once more from the bench he played on the left wing in a 2-1 win over Horsham at Horsham YMCA on 3.9.11. Chris Kinnear told Margate's website "He came in today for his first start of the season and I thought he had a very good game on the left side of midfield. He got some decent crosses in and on another day would have scored himself, so I'm pleased for him." The manager also told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "I think he probably likes the freedom of the left wing, so that's where we're going to try and play him."

After another outing on the wing Curtis was moved inside for a trip to Metropolitan Police on 14.9.11 and Chris Kinnear told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "Curtis Robinson looked very good in central midfield." The paper agreed and said he was "outstanding" as Margate won 3-1.

Curtis kept his place for a 3-0 win over Tooting & Mitcham in an FA Cup tie at Hartsdown Park on 17.9.11 and Chris Kinnear told the Gazette "Considering he's not really a central midfielder he played well. It's impossible to cover every blade of grass but he just wants to run all the time. We were a bit light in midfield but Curtis has come in and made it very difficult to take him out."

He was a regular in midfield for the next two months - playing on the left or in a central role - but on 25.10.11 Curtis was substituted just 30 minutes into a game at Concord Rangers. He'd been already been booked when he clashed with an opponent and was fortunate not to be dismissed so Chris Kinnear took him off to avoid a potential red card.

On 26.11.11 Curtis wore the number nine shirt in a 2-0 win at Harrow and the Thanet Times said he deserved "much credit" after setting up Kwesi Appiah's first goal and then winning the penalty from which the prolific scorer got his second. The Times said Curtis was "an excellent foil for Appiah all afternoon" and "did a smashing job as a makeshift striker". It was the start of a run up front for Curtis and the Isle of Thanet Gazette said he "played with the enthusiasm of a kid in the playground" in a 5-0 win over visitors East Thurrock on 29.11.11. He once again created two goals for his strike partner Appiah and Chris Kinnear said "Curtis has played everywhere for us now - he's also the one who'd go in goal if we didn't have a goalie ! He's putting Kwesi through all the time. Bosses have given him stick in the past but he's a nice lad, he's a lot more relaxed and is enjoying himself."

The last game of Curtis' initial stint in attack was a 1-1 draw at Billericay on 10.12.11 and afterwards Chris Kinnear told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "Curtis has done a brilliant job as a makeshift striker. He hasn't scored but he's created a lot of chances for Kwesi. I bet centre-forward is probably his favourite position now - everyone likes playing there - but I'm able to move him back now." The reason why Kinnear planned to change Curtis' position was because striker Warren McBean had joined Margate but after he'd made one appearance - in a 3-1 home defeat against Metropolitan Police on 17.12.11 - McBean left the club. Curtis had played at left-back in that match.

He was back in the number nine shirt on 27.12.11 as Margate took on Cray at Bromley and Curtis scored with a thumping header from a Matt Bodkin cross in a 4-2 win. The Isle of Thanet Gazette said "it was a goal any centre-forward would've been happy with". Curtis then played as a striker in three of the next four games before reverting to the left wing and scoring in a 4-3 defeat against Charlton in a Kent Senior Cup tie at Hartsdown Park on 24.1.12.

For the next few weeks he generally played up front once more but when Curtis scored his third goal of the season in a 2-1 defeat at Bury on 28.2.12 he was back on the left wing. He also started then next two matches in the number 11 shirt but after a 0-0 draw with visitors Leatherhead on 10.3.12 Curtis only made one start and three substitute appearances in Margate's next seven games up to and including a 1-1 draw at Tooting & Mitcham on 14.4.12.

On 21.4.12 he was back in the number nine shirt as Margate drew 2-2 with Billericay at Hartsdown Park and Curtis also started the next two matches, the second of which was a 5-0 defeat at Canvey Island on 28.4.12. He finished the campaign having scored three times in a total of 46 appearances (seven as sub).

Curtis was an unused substitute for Margate's first game of the 2012/13 season - against Hendon at Hartsdown Park on 18.8.12 - and then didn't feature at all in the following game as Margate travelled to Hastings. On 25.8.12 he came on in a 3-3 draw at Kingstonian in the Isthmian League Premier Division but that appearance, Curtis' 150th for Margate, was his last for the club and after not featuring at all in the matchday squad for the next two matches he signed for Ramsgate at the start of September 2012.

Curtis made the first appearance of his second spell with the Rams in a 1-1 draw with Merstham in an Isthmian League Division 1 South game at Southwood on 8.9.12 and by the end of the 2012/13 campaign he'd scored six times in 45 outings in all competitions.

Curtis stayed with Ramsgate for the start of the 2013/14 season too.
