Distinctive blonde 6' 0" tall striker born in Gillingham who played for Twydall Boys Club, Kenilworth and Medway Boys as a youngster before joining Gillingham as a trainee aged 17 in February 1989. Dave became a regular in the Gills' youth team during 1989/90 and in June 1990 he was signed as a professional. In August 1990 Dave came on as a substitute for the Gills in a friendly at Margate and later that month he was loaned to Croydon.

Dave went on to have four other loan spells during 1990/91. He was with Folkestone from September 1990 until the club folded in January 1991 and then played for Ashford during January 1991, scoring in a 2-1 home win over Margate on 19.1.91. In February 1991 Dave was sent to Fisher and then in May 1991 he linked up with Sittingbourne. Despite spending most of the season at other clubs Dave managed to make two substitute appearances for Gillingham's first team and scored ten goals for the reserves but he was released in the summer of 1991.

He joined Sittingbourne on a permanent basis for the start of the 1991/92 campaign and scored over 18 goals during the season before moving on to Ashford in the summer of 1992.

After scoring around ten goals for Ashford during the early part of 1992/93, including one in a 4-0 win at Margate on 8.12.92, Dave joined Margate on a month's loan in January 1993. He made his debut in a 1-1 draw with Newport IOW at Hartsdown Park on 2.1.93 and the Thanet Times said "he has speed off the mark and adroit ball control". The paper also described Dave as being "nimble" and said that he "showed enough to prove that he will be a valuable asset...with flowing silver locks kept in check by a headband he cut a dashing cavalier-type figure".

Margate's next match was at Gravesend & Northfleet on 5.1.93 but Dave missed it having gone to Hartsdown by mistake, thinking it was a home game. He returned for a Southern League match against Witney at Hartsdown on 9.1.93 and scored his first Margate goal in a 2-1 defeat. In his next outing Dave found the net again with a spectacular diving header in a 3-1 win at Burnham on 16.1.93. The Isle of Thanet Gazette mentioned Dave's "shoulder-length flaxen hair and dashing demeanour" in its report for a 3-1 home defeat against Fisher on 19.1.93 and Dave then scored in Margate's next two matches. He was on target in both a 3-1 win over Poole at Hartsdown on 26.1.93 and a 5-3 home defeat against Salisbury on 2.2.93 to complete a run of four goals in five games but Dave then briefly returned to Ashford.

He missed one match before his transfer to Margate became permanent and the Gazette said he was "a bonny battler up front" during a 1-0 win over Buckingham at Hartsdown on 23.2.93. On 10.3.93 Dave bagged a hat-trick for the reserves in a 5-1 win at Herne Bay in the Kent Midweek League and on 13.3.93 he scored what the Thanet Times called "a classic goal" in a 2-0 home win over Gravesend & Northfleet. Dave dummied a defender before firing low into the corner of the net and he scored once more before the end of the season to take his overall tally to six goals in 20 appearances. He also scored 11 goals in ten reserve team games.

Dave made his first appearance of the 1993/94 campaign in a 3-0 defeat at Sudbury on 24.8.93 and after that he came on as a substitute in eight consecutive matches as the form of new strike pairing Joe Brayne and Steve Cuggy kept him out of the side. Dave earned himself a possibly unwanted 'super sub' reputation by scoring three times when coming off the bench, getting his first goal in a 3-2 win over his old club Ashford on 30.8.93 and then finding the net in a 3-2 win at Erith & Belvedere on 7.9.93 and a 3-0 win at Bromley in the FA Cup on 25.9.93. On 5.10.93 he made a rare start in a 0-0 home draw with Fisher in the Southern League Cup and Dave then made three more sub appearances before being given the number ten shirt for a Kent Senior Cup tie at Fisher on 9.11.93. Margate won 1-0 and it was Dave's last game for the club as he rejoined Ashford later in November 1993. He'd scored three times in 14 appearances (11 as sub).

In December 1993 Ashford loaned Dave to Faversham and he spent the rest of the season with the Kent League outfit. He was always amongst the goals and on 26.4.94 Dave scored in a 10-1 win over Margate's reserves in the Kent Midweek League.

Dave's move to Faversham became permanent in the summer of 1994 but at the end of the 1994/95 campaign he left the club and took an extended break from senior football.

He resurfaced at Sittingbourne during the 1998/99 season and played for the Brickies during 1999/00 too before retiring aged only 28.
