David also played twice for the first team, making his debut in a 4-1 defeat at Dorchester on 8.11.86. According to the Thanet Times he "gave a creditable account of himself" in United's midfield. Manager John Wickens said that he "gave 100%." David also played as Thanet went down 3-1 at Canterbury in a Southern League Cup tie on 18.11.86. He then returned to the reserves.

David tragically died in a house fire along with his brother Vince on 30.10.88, he was only 22 at the time.
