Diminutive player born in Willesden, London who started his career with Preston North End before World War II and then moved on to Fulham for the 1946/47 season.

In September 1947 Ernie joined Queens Park Rangers but he didn't make his first team debut until 24.4.48 when he wore the number seven shirt as QPR beat visitors Newport 1-0 in Division 3 (South). He spent almost five years with the R's but only made four more senior appearances before being released at the end of the 1951/52 campaign.

After his departure from Loftus Road he joined Betteshanger and Ernie spent three seasons with the colliery club before moving on to Ashford in the summer of 1955.

He linked up with Dover for the 1956/57 campaign and in July 1957 Ernie moved on to Margate, by that time he was 35.

He made his debut on the right wing in a 1-0 win over Ramsgate in the Kent League at Hartsdown Park on 31.8.57 and Ernie went on to make a total of eight sporadic appearances for the first team during the remainder of the 1957/58 campaign. He always wore the number seven shirt and Ernie scored twice - in a 2-0 win at Whitstable on 30.4.58 and a 6-1 home win over Herne Bay on 3.5.58.

In August 1958 he left the club and signed for Clacton.

Ernie lived in Radlett, Hertfordshire for many years and after retiring as a player he was involved with football coaching at Leggatts College in Watford.

He later worked for British Gas and Ernie died on 28.9.09 aged 87. He'd been a devoted Liverpool supporter for most of his life as his wife Doreen came from the city.
