Solid, reliable full-back born in Easington Lane who began his senior career with South Shields in his native North East and then had a spell with Lincoln City before joining Ramsgate in the summer of 1959.

Gordon became the Rams captain and then signed for Margate in March 1960, making his debut in a 3-0 win over Tunbridge Wells at Hartsdown on 19.3.60. The local press said Gordon's "creditable display" was a "pleasing feature" of the match and he went on to make a total of nine appearances at right-back before the end of the 1959/60 season.

Gordon then really established himself during the 1960/61 season and made 49 appearances without scoring.

However the signing of Bill Parry in the summer of 1961 led to Gordon spending most of the 1961/62 campaign in the reserves. A severe thigh injury that he suffered pre-season also didn't help matters. Gordon made a total of 21 appearances for the reserves during the season and featured just seven times for the first team. On 27.3.62 he played as makeshift striker in a Kent Floodlight Cup game at Ramsgate and scored the Margate goal in a 1-1 draw. It turned out to be Gordon's only goal for the club and he was released in the summer of 1962.

He initially returned to Ramsgate but by the end of 1962 he was playing for Snowdown.

Gordon then joined Deal and spent the 1963/64 campaign with them before moving to Whitstable for 1964/65. After two seasons with the Oystermen Gordon joined Canterbury in the summer of 1966.

Gordon went on to spend six seasons (1966/67-1971/72) with City, making 146 Southern League appearances without scoring. He became City's player-assistant manager during 1970/71 and eventually left the club in the summer of 1972.

Gordon then returned to Whitstable and stayed there until his retirement as a player.

In April 1974 Gordon became Coventry's south-east scout and in the summer of 1975 he was appointed as Ramsgate's youth team coach, combining the role with his Coventry duties. However he was sacked by the Rams in January 1976 during a financial crisis at Southwood.

During the 1977/78 season Gordon was reserve team manager at Dover where he was known for finding talented youngsters, including Gary Pugh. He then returned to Canterbury and during the 1978/79 campaign Gordon was assistant manager there.

His son Dale played for Margate during the 1979/80 season and another son, Grant, played for Ramsgate during the early 1980's.

Gordon was still living in Thanet in 2012.
