Sunderland-born player who started his career with non-league Washington Chemical Works and then had a spell with Bexleyheath & Welling before joining Charlton early in 1940.

During World War II Jackie made a total of 26 appearances for Charlton, scoring 14 goals. They included 11 in the 1942/43 season.

He also turned out for Clapton Orient as a guest player, scoring eight goals in 26 appearances for them between 1941 and 1943. In addition Jackie made a one-off appearance for Plymouth in a 3-0 defeat at Arsenal on 17.11.45.

With the hostilities over he dropped back into non-league football, joining Hylton Colliery before signing for Swindon in May 1947.

Jackie made 27 first team appearances for Swindon during 1947/48 and was then transferred to Leyton Orient in June 1948.

He was a first team regular for the O's before dropping into non-league football again to join Tonbridge during 1950.

Jackie then had a spell with Snowdown and in October 1952 he moved to Margate aged 33.

He made an impressive debut on the right wing, scoring in a 2-2 draw with Canterbury at Hartsdown on 4.10.52, and Jackie kept his place for Margate's next two games. He then fell out of favour and after a spell in the reserves, during which he scored twice, Jackie left the club.

He joined Sittingbourne for the 1953/54 season.

Jackie died in Eastbourne on 13.4.04 aged 84.
