Talented left-sided player born in Cobham, Kent who spent three seasons in Charlton's youth set-up from 1990/91 to 1992/93 inclusive before being released by the Addicks.

In the summer of 1994 Jimmy was signed by Gravesend & Northfleet and he went on to become a hugely popular figure at Stonebridge Road during an initial nine-year spell with the club. Jimmy's first manager at Gravesend was former Margate player-manager Garry Aldous. On 2.12.95 Jimmy was part of the Fleet side that lost 3-0 at Aston Villa in the FA Cup 3rd Round and his team-mates that day included future Margate players Paul Lamb, Mark Munday and Lee Turner. Jimmy also played a key role as Gravesend won the Isthmian League Premier Division title during the 2001/02 campaign and on 6.5.02 he scored in a 5-0 win at Margate in the Kent Senior Cup Final.

On 25.3.03 Jimmy won a cap for the England semi-professional team when he came on as a substitute in a 0-0 draw in Holland and in the summer of 2003 he signed for Conference club Dagenham & Redbridge.

Jimmy struggled with injuries during the 2003/04 season and in November 2003 the Daggers loaned him to Dover. He made seven appearances without scoring before going back to Dagenham in December 2003. Jimmy had difficulty combining his Daggers commitments with his work on his family's farm in Kent and after making 23 appearances (two as sub) during 2003/04 he rejoined Gravesend in May 2004. Jimmy had scored once for Dagenham - in a 3-3 draw at Margate one 6.3.04.

He went on to spend two more seasons with Gravesend and took his overall record to 520 appearances (26 as sub) for the club. Jimmy scored 92 goals, including numerous free-kicks and long-range strikes, before being released at the end of the 2005/06 campaign. He was one of numerous Fleet players who were unable to commit to the club's new full-time regime and a Gravesend website described Jimmy as being "undoubtedly one of the Fleet's all-time greats".

In May 2006 he signed a two-year contract with Margate, around the same time as several other former Gravesend players joined the club, and player-manager Robin Trott told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "Jimmy is one of the best signings we could have got - he's a great player. He's a different level and I'm absolutely over the moon because I worked hard to get him." Trott then told the KM Extra "Jimmy always gives 100 per cent and he is an absolute winner." Jimmy told the paper "I had some really good times at Gravesend and hopefully there will be a few more ahead with Margate."

In its report on a 1-1 draw with Millwall in a friendly at Hartsdown Park on 8.7.06 the Thanet Times said Jimmy's "sweet left foot will surely unlock a few defences this season" and on the eve of the new season Robin Trott spoke to the Isle of Thanet Gazette about Jimmy saying he "Never stops working and will never let his head get down. He's got a good left foot and will score goals. He's the same breed as Steve McKimm - a good professional."

Jimmy made his debut on the left of midfield in a 5-2 win at Worthing in the Isthmian League Premier Division on 19.8.06 and on 26.8.06 he scored his first goal with what the Thanet Times described as a "cracking effort from the edge of the box" in a 2-1 home win over Slough. Jimmy then made it back-to-back goals when he struck in a 5-1 win at Folkestone on 28.8.06.

On 12.9.06 he played a left-back for the first time as Margate lost 2-0 at Ramsgate in an Isthmian League Cup tie but Jimmy was soon back in midfield and the Thanet Times said he had "a field day down the left as he rained in crosses" during a 2-1 win at Whitstable in the FA Cup on 30.9.06. He'd started each of Margate's first 16 matches when he had to go off early in the second half during a 3-2 defeat at Billericay on 17.10.06. Jimmy then missed four games before resuming his duties in the number 11 shirt in a 2-0 win over Hampton & Richmond at Hartsdown Park on 11.11.06. He was ever-present from then on, almost always playing on the left-hand side of midfield.

Jimmy got his third goal of the season in a 4-0 win at Horsham on 9.12.06 and the Thanet Times said he "deliciously stroked the ball into the bottom right hand corner". He then opened the scoring in a 1-1 draw at Ramsgate on 26.12.06 with what the Isle of Thanet Gazette called an "outrageous" goal. The paper said "there looked to be little on when the ball dropped at Jackson's feet wide on the left and about 30 yards out. So he had a go on the volley and completely caught out Rams keeper Paul Wilkerson as the ball flew over his head and dropped in the far corner".

Jimmy continued to shine during the remainder of the campaign and on 17.2.07 he had another outing at left-back as Margate lost 2-1 at Carshalton. The Thanet Times picked him out as its 'man of the match' during a 1-0 home defeat against Heybridge on 24.3.07 and said Jimmy "wanted the ball more than anybody else". He finished the season having scored four goals from 46 appearances.

He scored three goals in Margate's friendlies ahead of the 2007/08 campaign and shortly before the new season began Robin Trott told the Isle of Thanet Gazette that Jimmy was an "Absolutely brilliant crosser of a ball." Trott added "Jimmy's a lovely lad who will always give 100 per cent. Takes up great positions."

He was a regular in midfield for the first three months of the campaign and on 23.10.07 Jimmy got his first goal of the season in a 3-1 win over Aylesbury in an FA Trophy tie at Hartsdown Park. On 17.11.07 he filled in at left-back in a 4-3 home defeat against Maidstone in the Isthmian League Premier Division and during December 2007 Jimmy wore the number three shirt for four consecutive matches. The last of them was a 4-1 win over visitors East Thurrock on 15.12.07 and after that he missed three games due to injury.

Jimmy returned to the side as a substitute in a 2-1 win over Ashford (Middlesex) at Hartsdown Park on 5.1.08 and from then on he was a fixture in midfield once more, usually playing on the left-hand side but sometimes filling a more central role. He got his second goal of the campaign in a 3-1 home win over Staines on 16.2.08 and Jimmy then scored twice in March 2008. He got the winner as Margate beat Billericay 1-0 at Hartsdown Park on 8.3.08 and he also found the net in a 3-3 home draw with Wealdstone on 22.3.08.

Jimmy took his goal tally to five with a deflected free-kick in a remarkable 5-4 win over visitors Heybridge on 5.4.08 and on 12.4.08 he made it back-to-back goals after beating two defenders and firing home from the edge of the penalty area in a 4-2 win at Leyton. On 26.4.08 Jimmy wore Margate's number 11 shirt for the last time in a 1-0 win at Harrow and after scoring six goals from 47 appearances (three as sub) during 2007/08 he left the club at the end of the season.

In May 2008 Jimmy signed for Isthmian League Division 1 South outfit Folkestone and scored on his home debut for them - a 2-1 win over Chipstead on 19.8.08. He went on to make 49 appearances and scored ten goals during 2008/09 and Jimmy won both the Players' and Supporter's 'Player of the Year' awards for the campaign.

He scored three goals from 44 appearances (one as sub) for Folkestone during the 2009/10 season as the club were promoted to the Isthmian League Premier Division via the play-offs and on 4.5.10 Jimmy found the net as Folkestone lost 3-1 to Sittingbourne in the Kent Senior Cup Final. That turned out to be the last game of his career as in June 2010 Jimmy announced his retirement aged 33 due to knee problems. He'd played in over 720 senior games by then and Folkestone's manager Neil Cugley said "We're very disappointed to be losing Jacko and I think he is equally disappointed at being forced to stop playing the game. It's a massive loss and I know he was hoping to play one more year in the Premier, where his experience would've been so important for us. He has been a great servant to the club over the last two seasons and a good person to have around."
