5' 7" tall Scottish Schoolboy international born in Bellshill who started his career with junior club Edina Hearts before joining Hibernian in 1963.

In four seasons with Hibs (1963/64-1966/67) Jimmy made 27 senior appearances and he was a member of the side that won the Summer Cup competition in 1964.

After being freed by Hibs in April 1967 Jimmy moved south and in July the same year he signed for Southend. He made 37 first team appearances for the Essex club during the 1967/68 season and then moved into non-league football with Brentwood during the 1968/69 campaign. Jimmy stayed with the club when it merged with Chelmsford.

He joined Margate on loan from Chelmsford in January 1971 and made his debut as Margate went down 4-0 at home to Cambridge City on 30.1.71. Jimmy displayed some neat touches in midfield and also used the ball well and he went on to make seven appearances before being recalled by Chelmsford in March 1971.

On 31.3.72 Jimmy was sent off as Chelmsford beat Margate 4-3 and in the summer of 1972 he signed for Dover.

Jimmy scored 12 goals for Dover during 1972/73 and he was still with the club at the start of the 1973/74 campaign but moved on during the season.
