Slightly-built, fast, hard-working right winger born in Bexleyheath known for his accurate crossing. Peter began his career with amateur side Royal Ordnance Factories (Woolwich) before joining Dartford for the 1951/52 season. He made 99 appearances for the Darts, scoring 15 goals, before being picked up by Crystal Palace.

After a season at Selhurst Park he had a spell with Dover, scoring five goals during 1955/56, and then rejoined Dartford during the 1956/57 season. He made 18 further appearances for the Darts before moving to Tonbridge and switching flanks.

In the summer of 1957 Peter signed for Bath as he was based near the city whilst serving in the R.A.F. during his National Service. His team-mates included Tony Book and Stan Mortensen. Peter made 62 appearances for Bath, scoring twice, before leaving the club during the first half of the 1958/59 campaign.

He then had a stint with Kidderminster before joining Margate in January 1959, shortly after being demobbed.

Peter made his debut for the club in 1-1 Kent League draw at Canterbury on 24.1.59 and put in a performance described as "scintillating" by the local press. He went on to play regularly during the remainder of the 1958/59 season and made a total of 16 appearances, scoring four times. Towards the end of the campaign the local press said he was "as sedate as a pouter pigeon".

Peter was then virtually ever-present during the 1959/60 season and played 56 times but only found the net four times. The East Kent Times said he "often appeared dangerous, but seldom scored" and added that Peter's goal tally "was not particularly prodigious for a forward". On 14.11.59 he played in a 1-1 draw at Kettering in the FA Cup 1st Round and Peter also featured in the replay at Hartsdown Park on 19.11.59 that Margate won 3-2. He was then in the side that drew 0-0 with visitors Crystal Palace in the 2nd Round on 5.12.59 and took part in the replay at Selhurst Park on 9.12.59 that the Eagles won 3-0.

It was partly due to his lack of goals that Peter found himself in and out of the side during the 1960/61 season. He only managed three in 26 appearances and that led to a memorable quote from the local press. According to the Isle of Thanet Gazette's reporter Peter "gave the impression that he had taken out an insurance policy against scoring goals".

At the end of the campaign he was released and joined Tunbridge Wells where he spent three seasons before joining Sheppey for 1964/65. The club won the Greater London League Championship that season. Peter stayed with the island club until the end of the 1966/67 campaign.

Peter later moved on to Kent League Tunnel Sports and was playing for them during the 1968/69 campaign.

He then became player-manager of Brentstonians before joining Erith & Belvedere as manager at the end of 1971.

Peter's first game in charge of Erith was on New Year's Day 1972 and he stayed with the club until the summer of 1976 when he went to Canada to coach. He'd made one appearance as a player for the Deres during 1973/74.

Around a year later Peter returned to the UK and had a spell as manager of Bexley FC before returning to Erith in January 1978. His second stint in charge of the Deres lasted until the end of the 1990/91 season, a remarkable period of over 13 years.

He later did some coaching in the USA before joining Basingstoke's coaching staff in 1995. During the 2004/05 season Peter was the club's assistant manager, working alongside Ernie Howe but he left the club when Howe resigned in March 2006.

During the 2011/12 campaign Peter was scouting for Northampton.

Whilst playing for Margate Peter worked as a design draughtsman in an electronics factory.
