Bexley-born left-sided attacker who started his career with Bromley. Ryan progressed through the club's junior ranks to the senior squad during the 2007/08 season and then started to establish himself during 2008/09. He made 25 Conference South appearances without scoring that season and Ryan then scored three times in 22 Conference South outings during 2009/10.

He fell out of favour during the 2010/11 campaign and didn't feature at all for Bromley in the Conference South before signing for their league rivals Welling in March 2011.

Ryan made his debut for the Wings in a 1-1 draw with Ebbsfleet at Park View Road on 22.3.11 and spent the remainder of the season with the club.

In the summer of 2011 he rejoined Bromley but in October 2011 Ryan went back to Welling.

At the end of January 2012 he moved on to Leatherhead and Ryan made his debut for the club in a 5-0 home defeat against Bury in the Isthmian League Premier Division on 28.1.12. He went on to make a total of four league appearances (two as sub) for the Tanners without scoring before the end of the 2011/12 campaign.

In the summer of 2012 Ryan signed for Margate on a non-contract basis and after featuring in most of the club's pre-season friendlies he made his competitive debut as a substitute in a 2-2 draw at Hastings in the Isthmian League Premier Division on 21.8.12. Ryan also featured as a sub in the next game and then scored in his next outing after coming on in a match at Bognor Regis on 1.9.12 that Margate won 2-0.

Following three further sub appearances Ryan started for the first time in an FA Cup tie at Aveley on 22.9.12 after striker Tommy Whitnell picked up an injury in the pre-match warm-up. Ryan played up front and opened the scoring with a header just before half time. Margate went on to win 4-1 and the Thanet Times said he put in "a decent shift at short notice".

Ryan was back on the bench as Margate took on Maidstone in an FA Trophy tie at Hartsdown Park on 29.9.12 but he came on to score for the second match in a row as the Stones won 2-1. He then started the next game - a Kent Senior Cup tie against visitors Sittingbourne on 2.10.12 - and Ryan took his goal tally to three from three outings in a 6-1 win. He started two of the next four matches but after a 4-0 home defeat against Metropolitan Police in the Isthmian League Cup on 16.10.12 Ryan spent the next few months being used exclusively as a substitute, partly due to being troubled by a hernia problem.

After a run where he featured seven times as a sub in 15 games Ryan made his first start for exactly four months when he played on the wing in a 2-1 defeat at Wealdstone on 16.2.13. He then made two more appearances as a substitute before playing at left-back in a 2-0 win over Leiston at Hartsdown Park on 26.2.13. Margate's website said Ryan turned in "an accomplished performance" in his new role and he was a fixture in the side for the remainder of the season, usually playing in defence but sometimes in his more familiar midfield slot.

Margate's website said Ryan "put in another accomplished performance at left back" in a 0-0 draw with Hendon at Wembley FC on 2.3.13 and on 1.4.13 he got one of the goals in a 4-0 win over Cray at Bromley. Ryan finished the season having scored five times in 38 appearances (17 as sub).
