Chatham-born son of former Margate striker Bobby Harrison who started his career with Gillingham where he scored eight goals in the youth team during 1990/91 season. At the end of 1991/92 Stuart was released and he joined Dover in the summer of 1992.

He spent most of 1992/93 in Dover's reserves, only making a handful of first team appearances, and Stuart also had a spell on loan at Deal during the season. In October 1993 Dover sent him to Canterbury on loan and Stuart made 15 appearances for City up to the end of January 1994, scoring once in his last game for the club - a 2-1 defeat at Bury on 29.1.94.

Immediately after returning to Dover Stuart was loaned to Margate and he made his debut on the left wing in a 4-0 win over Burnham at Hartsdown Park on 12.2.94. The Thanet Times said he "displayed a refreshing willingness to run down the flank and put over a telling cross" whilst the Isle of Thanet Gazette said he was "a valuable acquisition" and "a welcome revelation". Stuart also wore the number eleven shirt for Margate's next two matches but after that he struggled to hold down a regular place and he was in and out of the side for the remainder of the 1993/94 campaign, often being used as a substitute. On 23.4.94 he scored his first goal in a 2-0 win at Bury, the same team he'd got his Canterbury goal against, and it was Stuart's first appearance in the starting line-up since 22.3.94. He didn't start a game again until 7.5.94 when he scored once more as Margate beat Poole 5-0 at Hartsdown. Stuart finished the season having scored twice in a total of 12 appearances (six as sub) and then returned to Dover.

In the summer of 1994 he signed for Deal before moving on to Herne Bay later in the 1994/95 campaign.

Stuart returned to Margate for the start of 1995/96 and made his first appearance at left-back in a 3-1 defeat at Trowbridge on 19.8.95, the opening day of the season. He also wore the number three shirt in a 1-0 win over Erith & Belvedere at Hartsdown Park on 22.8.95 but left the club shortly afterwards and joined Chatham.

Stuart stayed at Chatham until the end of the 1996/97 campaign when he linked up with Ashford.

He was Ashford's joint leading scorer for 1997/98 with five goals and he also made a one-off appearance for Deal during the season.

In July 1999 Stuart signed for Sittingbourne and in February 2000 he was loaned to Deal until the end of 1999/00. He took his total career appearances for Deal past the 50 mark before going back to Sittingbourne at the end of the season. Stuart stayed with the Brickies until the end of the 2001/02 campaign when he left to go travelling.

He rejoined Sittingbourne for the start of the 2003/04 season but in November 2003 Stuart moved on to Whitstable.

He went on to score 17 goals in 82 appearances for Whitstable before joining Lordswood towards the end of 2006.

Stuart left Lordswood at the end of the 2006/07 campaign and retired from senior football.
